Jessie Mueller

Jessie Mueller originated the role of Jenna Hunterson in Waitress the Musical at the American Repertory Theater in 2015, as well as opening the show on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Jessie’s voice can be heard on the Original Broadway Cast Recording.

Sara Bareilles had auditioned to play Cinderella in Into The Woods in 2012, a role which was given to Jessie Mueller. She later saw Jessie portray Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical on Broadway, for which she won a Tony Award, when she attended the opening night. Sara noted on that night that she wanted Jessie for Waitress. Jessie attended the Waitress workshop, and then reprised the role in the premiere at the American Repertory Theater in August 2015 and again at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in April 2016.

Jessie was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for her portrayal of Jenna in Waitress, performing ‘She Used To Be Mine‘ at the 2016 awards ceremony, with Sara Bareilles. She left the show on 26 March 2017.
